In the name of the King (perhaps too young to make the decree), Huy was officially appointed to his position by "The Overseer of the treasury’" who remains anonymous, but was probably Meryre or Maya, . The inscription states: "The Overseer of the Treasury, says, ‘Thus speaks Pharaoh, ‘There is handed over to you [devolved land management] from Nekheb to Neswet-tawy", a vast territory ranging from Elkab until the fourth cataract of the Nile!

Opposite him, Huy, carrying a fan, replies: "May Amon, lord of Neswet-tawy do according to all that you have commanded(?), O Sovereign my lord"

Huy is accompanied by bowing courtiers, a scene which would not have been out of place in a tomb at Amarna, who state: "The courtiers who are in the palace say: ‘You are the son of Amon, O Nebkheperurê! May he cause the chiefs of all lands to come to you with the choicest and best of their lands".

The "Inventory Stela", found by Auguste Mariette in 1858 Close to the Pyramid G I-c at the cemetery G 7000 of the Great Pyramid of Khufu in Giza. 26th Dynasty. Mentions a princess "Henutsen", probably a daughter of Khufu. Egyptian Museum Cairo, JE 2091.

Amanitore

Amanitore (c. 50 CE) was a Nubian Kandake (queen) of the ancient Kushitic Kingdom of Meroë, which also is referred to as Nubia in many ancient sources. An alternate spelling is Kandace, Kandake, or Kentake. In Egyptian hieroglyphics the throne name of Amanitore reads as Merkare. Many Candaces are described as warrior queens who led forces in battle.

Amulet of lioness-headed Sakhmet, enthroned
Brilliant blue-glazed faience figurine of the goddess Sakhmet, lion-headed and throned. On her lap she holds a sacred emblem, apparently the sistrum (a metallic rattle used to provide rhythm in cult music). The throne is openwork, with on each side a pair of figures of the fertility god Nehebkau in the form of a serpent with human legs and arms. Behind the head of the goddess is the suspension loop for wearing by the living or atta...ching to the dead for protection. Sakhmet was appeased in rituals at the height of the summer, to avoid divine fury in forms such as plague. Nehebkau was symbol of the regenerative forces of the earth, invoked at the July-August rising of the Nile flood, marking the Egyptian New Year, and again at the midway point in the Egyptian year in about February, after sowing and before harvesting the crops. These miniature artworks were produced in some number during the 3rd Intermediate Period and Late Period.

Fertility figure
In clearing the temple of Hatshepsut of the 18th Dynasty, the Egypt Exploration Fund discovered large numbers of votive offerings placed as prayers or thanks to the goddess Hathor. The majority of these offerings seem to have been made by women, and were probably intended to guarantee fertility and safe birth. This figure is in the blue faience often used to make amulets, and is without feet.

Egyptian models and scenes are frequently mistaken by the public for children's toys, particularly the model boats. But these often crude and charmingly naive figures have a much more serious prupose, namely to provide the staple diet of bread and beer for the tomb owner in the afterlife. This book follows the development of models from their origins in human servant burials at Abydos during the First dynastic and in Old Kingdom tomb decoration, through the stone figures from Old Kingdom mastabas and wooden models of the Eleventh and early Twelfth Dynasties, to their final demise in favour of shabtis in the New Kingdom. Chapters are devoted to single figures or groups which perform a variety of tasks associated with the production of foodstuffs, its storage and its transport by offering bearer and boat. This book discusses where models are found, who owned them, what purpose they served, where abouts in the tomb they were placed and how they relate to tomb scences. An analysis of the types of models found from region to region, along with regional style, is also included.
