The Goddess Meret Shemau

The Goddess Meret Shemau
mages of the goddess Meret Shemau (“Meret of the Southern Lands”) are recognizable from the curl at the end of her hairdo and her distinctive gesture of greeting or clapping. Depictions of divine rituals show Meret Shemau as a chantress. This scene, when complete, probably depicted her greeting the king as he ran a ceremonial race.

Oil Lamp Representing Beset

Oil Lamp Representing Beset
A fragment of an oil lamp, made of clay, is in the form of Beset, the spouse of the god Bes, lying down and holding a tambourine in her hand.
Her hair is hanging on her shoulders and round her back in locks, and she has a feather-like crown on her head.
It is noticeable that oil lamps had started to progress; artists did not just stop at geometrical and floral decorations, but rather started to use a new style, and to design the figure of a god or goddess to give a more aesthetic appearance to the lamp.

Sculptors' model with the head of a Pharaoh

Sculptors' model with the head of a Pharaoh
On a small slab of limestone, the head of a king is depicted in high relief. Nose and mouth are broken off. A part of the right shoulder is visible. The rendering of the shoulder suggests that a king's bust is represented.
The king wears the blue khepresh-crown, of which the head of the uraeus on the front and a small part of the helmet itself are missing. On the side of the helmet are two more uraei, one wearing the white crown and one wearing the red crown. At the back of the crown, Re-Harakhty is represented with outspread wings and crowned with a sun disk. He stands on a shen-ring on which is also a sceptre, which continues behind his wing. Under the wing, the sceptre has the shape of a papyrus stem (uadj, Gardiner M13), above, it has the shape of a ma'at-feather. A stylized ribbon hangs down from the back of the crown.
The relief is finely carved; the smaller details a little irregular.
The piece is most likely a sculptor's model or a votive plaque.

Vessel in the shape of a fly

Vessel in the shape of a fly
The style of this vessel classifies it as belonging to the so-called Tell el-Jahudiya ware. Its unique shape conveys a realistic image of the insect with its large eyes and a pair of wings. The legs of the fly are rendered rather like hands. The cross-hatching on the rear body of the fly is perhaps merely decorative, but may have some unknown significance.
