Stela of Baal-mont

Stela of Baal-mont
The decorated surface is divided into two registers. The first depicts the mummiform Osiris seated on a block throne on the left. He is holding a was-sceptre in his hands. In front of him stand a man and a woman, both making the gesture of adoration. Above the figures are three columns of text. In the lower register is a couple sitting on stools. The man is holding a lotus flower to his face. In front of him are two kneeling men, each holding a lotus flower. Underneath them is an offering table. The accompanying texts are placed above and between the figures.

Family of Three Egypt Middle Kingdom

Family of Three Egypt Middle Kingdom 12th-13th Dynasty 1850-1750 BCE Limestone
This sculpture reminds me of the Three Muses in Greco-Roman art although it is from a much earlier period. It is characteristic of Middle Kingdom group statuary with emphasized hands and feet, large ears and heavy wigs.
Photographed at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.

Vessel decorated with ships and birds

Vessel decorated with ships and birds
The vessel has a slender barrel shape with a flat bottom and a moulded rim. It is made of a light-coloured clay. Two cylinder handles for suspending ropes are attached to the shoulder. The walls of the vessel have been sectioned by the reddish brown painted decoration. In the bottom half, a row of flamingos is represented on top of a series of triangles. Between the cylinder handles are images of ships complete with their oars, cabins, and standards. Their prows are decorated with a stylized structure made of reeds. These figurative drawings with their regulating divisions and series of motifs were of great importance for the development of Egyptian two-dimensional art. The small size of this jar suggests that it was intended for the storage of precious liquids placed in the tomb for use by the deceased in his otherworldly existence.
