comb

Comb
Double-sided comb of wood, with wider-spaced teeth on one side, imperfectly preserved. The Romans introduced into Egypt the fashionable practice of wearing combs as part of elaborate hairstyles. This example comes from el-Rubiyat, where many fine portrait panels were found on mummified bodies of the first centuries AD.
GOVERNORATE OF FAIYUM: EL-RUBIYAT
ROMAN PERIOD
From the division of finds excavated by the Egypt Exploration Fund. Given to the museum in 1901.
