Fragment of the face from a sarcophagus lid, carved in black granite with rose colored blotches across forhead. A fragmentary inscription on the preserved proper right shoulder of the piece matches an inscribed lid in the British Museum, part of a sarcophagus set belonging to Merymose, the Viceroy of Kush under Amenhotep III.

Provenance

From Thebes, Qurnet Murai, tomb of Merymose (TT 383). By 1909, with Mohamed Mohassib, Luxor, purchased of Mohamed Mohassib by Joseph Lindon Smith with 09.287 for $150.00, acquired by the MFA with funds provided by Mrs. Frank Peabody. (Accession Date: August 5, 1909)
