Portable sundial: UC 16376
This fragment of a sundial is one of the few surviving examples of a portable clock. Two features important for a sundial raise problems for a portable version: a sundial must be oriented in a certain way (normally East-West) and the sundial must be placed absolutely horizontal on its ground. The latter could be arranged, by hanging a plumb froma line attached to the clock. For the orientation it was more difficult to find a solution
