Sarcophagus of an eel

Sarcophagus of an eel
This bronze object is comprised of a long rectangular "socle" on which an animal is found of which the main part is presented as a serpent surmounted by a human head and of which the body takes the form of an eel. It is in effect the sarcophagus of an eel, the sacred animal of the god Atum. In the cosmogony of Heliopolis, it was considered as the demiurge, floating in the Waters of Nun and setting creation in motion.
